Great Lake Swimmers, back from there east coast jaunt, performed at Criminal Records Thursday evening. They’re heading out on another long tour which starts this weekend in Guelph and Toronto. They sounded pretty good, although on the recording the vocals seem kinda low. Thanks to the band, Phil, and the guys at Criminal Records for letting me record.

Austin, TX band Okkervil River were in town last Friday for a soldout show at Lee’s Palace. Their touring in support of their new album, The Stage Names, which is in stores now. With them on this leg of the tour is Damien Jurado who also has a new record out. I was lucky enough to find a ticket on the Okkervil River forum from Marty. Thanks again. Damien Jurado went on around 10:40pm and played for about 40 minutes. There was a decent sized crowd, but the majority of them were there just to talk loud and yell shit at Damien. Performing solo, Damien’s set was comprised of slow acoustic numbers better suited in another venue, with a more respectful crowd.
Okkervil River took the stage at midnight to a packed, sweaty, and extremely hot Lee’s Palace crowd. They played for about 90 minutes, a mixture of old and new songs. The soundguy Jeff did an excellent job making them sound as good as you can get at Lee’s.
